Concussion Education

The Missouri S&T Concussion Management Program provides comprehensive care of concussions to all students.

Students who experience one or more of the signs and symptoms listed below after a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body should be referred to Student Health Services for concussion evaluation.

 

SIGNS OBSERVED

SYMPTOMS REPORTED

  • Appears dazed or stunned
  • Answers questions slowly or repeats questions
  • Can't recall events prior to or after the hit, bump, or fall
  • Loses consciousness (even briefly)
  • Shows behavior or personality changes
  • More emotional or moody than normal
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Headache or "pressure" in head
  • Sensitivity to light or noise
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • sleep changes (too much or too little)
  • Feeling hazy, groggy, or just "not right"

 

THE FACTS

All concussions are serious. Most concussions occur without loss of consciousness. Concussions can affect school & learning performance. Recognition and proper response to concussions when they first occur can help aid recovery and prevent further injury, or even death.
