Tuberculosis testing/treatment

Missouri University of Science and Technology takes every reasonable step to protect all students from exposure to infectious diseases. Students from endemic areas account for about 95% of the risk of a tuberculosis outbreak on campus. Untreated TB can result in serious health problems for the student and other people who come in contact with him or her.

In order to ensure a healthy campus, beginning with the fall 2004 semester and every semester thereafter, all international students shall be required to have 2 Mantoux skin tests for tuberculosis. One test must be administered in the United States and both readings must be documented in millimeters.

Testing with the Mantoux skin test must be done or verified, at no charge to the prospective student at Student Health. If a skin test is positive, a chest x-ray will determine if the disease is active.

All students who test positive for TB shall be offered medication and shall be directly observed taking their medicine at Student Health for the designated time period.

Enrollment is contingent upon completion of the 2 step Mantoux testing and compliance with treatment if a test is positive.
